Counseling Services

The mission of the Leander ISD Counseling Services Department is to provide a proactive and comprehensive counseling program for all students. Counseling Services partners with educators, parents/guardians and community members to ensure all students in Leander ISD are prepared with the knowledge and skills to contribute at the highest level as productive members of society.

Through the comprehensive counseling program, students develop their academic, career and social skills to “Unlock Their Potential.”

School Counseling

School counselors work to promote the academic, career and social development of all students. While school counselors primarily provide academic and career advising, school counselors also serve as the first point of contact for social and emotional concerns.

School counselors provide lessons in the classroom setting as well as meeting individually with students and parents

Student & Family Support Team

The Leander ISD Student and Family Support Team (SFST) is comprised of Licensed Clinical Social Workers and Licensed Professional Counselors who provide short-term therapy services to students. The SFST team serve students and families who struggle with issues that significantly impact student learning and serves as a link between school, home and the community.

Members of the team also promote and support wellness, healthy choices and a drug-free lifestyle through prevention education and short term individual or group counseling services.

Second Step® Program

Social Skills Learning is recognized as a key ingredient for school and life success. To meet these specific needs, Leander ISD adopted the Second Step curriculum. The lessons are taught at in all elementary classrooms in grades K-5 as well as Early Learning Classrooms.

The developmentally appropriate lessons are divided into four units.

The overall goal of Social Skills Learning is to increase student instructional time by helping students stay on task and decreasing behaviors impacting learning.
